Was at the opening of the wonderful exhibition Charles Rennie Mackintosh: Making the Glasgow Style in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery yesterday. It was very busy but still managed to see most of it and plan to go back for another look. My husband's great-aunt is Ann Macbeth, one of the Glasgow Girls famed for her embroideries and painting on ceramics. On display was a very attractive cinema programme. She designed not only the cover, but the entire interior decor of the cinema. The versatility of the Glasgow style artists is impressive. Nowadays, people expect artists to be media specific - very annoying if you would rather be defined by what you produce that how you achieve it. Go and see this exhibition if you can, its really inspiring. Forget "Mockintosh", a term used to degrade the artistic merits which have on occasion been over-popularised - think Glasgow Style!
