After a very uninspired start to the New Year, today I visited two exhibitions at the City Art Centre in Edinburgh which have re-kindled the creative flame!
The four artists participating in "A Fine Line" exhibition, Lizzie Fary, Angie Lewin, Frances Priest and Bronwen Sleigh are all contemporary artists based in Scotland The exhibition explores the fine line between art and craft in two and three dimensions bringing together printmaking, drawing, collage, sculpture and ceramics. My particular interest was in Angie Lewin's prints as I have admired her work for some time. Luckily I had tickets for the talk the artists gave and it was a joy to hear them describe their practice and listen to their thoughts on creativity and their art. The exhibition is on until 18 February, its free and truly wonderful to see.
The 'surprise' extra show was by two artists based in the Scottish Borders, Pauline Burbridge and Charles Poulsen. Again, drawing features at the core of their work and they complement each other so well. I particularly liked the smaller works in the side room. You can sense the commitment and dedication and a sense of unity in their work.
MMDesign was founded by Maureen Mitchell in 2009 and has been building up a clientele from websites and various trade events.
